Summit on Dyspraxia/DCD

We are excited to announce the details of our Summit 2017

Dyspraxia/Developmental Co-ordination Disorder and its Consequences - the impacts and management of Dyspraxia/DCD and the effects on the lives of children, youth and their families.

Keynote Speaker

Professor John Cairney from the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University, Ontario, Canada. John is a leading researcher into Dyspraxia/DCD. 

Other Speakers

Dr. Dorothy Armstrong, Occupational Therapist and board member of Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland. Dorothy has just compiled a book entitled “The Next Adventure” Transitioning from Primary to Secondary School. 

Máire Ní Ghiobaláin, Occupational Therapist will present on Sensory Processing: Having qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2002, Máire specialised in paediatrics and trained in Sensory Integration.

Catherine Sheahan, Speech Therapist has extensive experience in working with individuals with a variety of speech and language difficulties and will present on Verbal Dyspraxia/DCD.

Tanya McGarry, Occupational Therapist has worked with children & families experiencing challenges for over 15 years. Tanya’s specialties include parenting & family support, sensory & emotional regulation & functional engagement in daily tasks. Tanya will present with Helen Ruane who is a Speech & Language Therapist with over 35 years’ experience in the areas of speech and language disorder, developmental delay, reading difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, child and adolescent mental health. Helen has training in sensory integration, counselling & psychotherapy.

Kerry Pace, a practitioner who supports people who have Dyspraxia/DCD. Kerry herself has Dyspraxia/DCD and also has two children who have Dyspraxia/DCD. Kerry has a long and varied career in supporting people who have disabilities and is a published researcher, awareness trainer and consultant.

 

Throughout the day we will be featuring our most popular “Voices of Experience” where five brave young people will talk about their personal journey with Dyspraxia/DCD.

 

Paul O’Kelly will be our MC for the day. Paul is a strategic thinking, leadership and growth strategist and coach, who has generously helped and encouraged Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland to grow and move forward as a vibrant charity,
